Bill Scheiderich is the 2016 recipient of the Member of the Year Award. Bill was born in upstate New York and after three years of military service and college he moved to Chicago for his first job in accounting. He has lived here ever since. He is the controller for Labor Temps, a large staffing agency with multi offices in the Midwest. He was introduced to the Norwegian community in Chicago after he met Jorunn in early 2000. Mette Magler Bowen is the 2015 recipient of NACC Chicago Chapter Member of the Year Award. She is a native of Oslo, Norway, and immigrated to the US in 1967. During her time in the US she has given time, as her daughter once described, being a “professional Norwegian”. Martha grew up in Cedar Rapids, IA and graduated from Luther College in 1979. She is 100% Norwegian and 5 generations American. Her ancestors came from Valdres, Voss, Sogn and Telemark in the mid and late 1800s. This year Martha will celebrate 30 years working for SAS here in Chicago! As Sales Manager, her territory extends from Arizona and Texas in the south to Minnesota and Michigan in the north. Charles Peterson received his BA in music from North Park College in 1973; his MA in communications from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1980; and his PhD in Radio-Television-Film from Northwestern University in 1992. His dissertation was entitled The Political Economy of Television in Sweden. In 1988 Mr. Peterson became Academic Dean and Professor of International Mass Media at Danvik Folkehøgskole International Media Center in Drammen, Norway, where he served until 1993.
